If you don't know about bands and DJ's in the area consider using an agent or a wedding planner that already has a good idea of what entertainment services would meet your needs. You will have to communicate clearly to the agent or coordinator what you are expecting and will also need to be able to answer questions and provide information as required.

Either a DJ or a band needs to provide a play list for you. This play list should include all the songs and music styles that the entertainment company provides so you can ask for additional types of music or indicated the types you don't want played at the wedding.

The band and DJ typically will set up in advance of the reception, but some services will set up during the break between the dinner and the entertainment. If you want the entertainment set up early, be prepared to pay a bit more as well as plan to feed the staff at the reception.
